Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.1/100, a mean average of 73.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 4.1.

Dec19. I did not even know this was out until late in the year; it seemed not long ago their last album came out. This takes us even further into commercial rock territory than the last album and it is full of electronic backing sounds. Still, these guys do it well and there are some gems on here.
Frank's lyrics are still full-on and personal in parts. The first two songs have cool lyrics, and the second has a cool guitar part by none other than Tom Morello, but it's the third song, 'Heartbreaker' where the catchiness kicks in. This is followed by 'Crowbar' which, whilst clearly aimed for a wider audience, still has Frank's sneer in parts. 'Love Games' is a straight out Beatles-level pop/rock, love song for the masses. 'Anxiety' is the sort of song a band like The Strokes might put out. Everything here is good, but the extremes are not there.
The slow songs aren't as haunting as the last release and the harsh sounds are mostly gone. It almost gets there with 'Kitty Sucker'. Everything here is in the middle. 3.5/5
Good album. Favorite track Heartbreaker.
