Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by marshallsbrother
Edit: I have decided to update this list and now include some of the classic albums I overlooked when I first posted. These are my favourite albums, and are more about an enjoyable listening experience for me, rather than any real critical evaluation. There are brilliant albums that I would rate very highly missing from this chart, but are maybe a more difficult listening experience for me than what I have on here. I hope you enjoy. Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 14% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.5/100, a mean average of 88.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.7.

I appreciate seeing Tool and Simon & Garfunkel listed back to back in your top 10
Gotta love the early aughts showing up. The one, two, three, of White Blood Cells, Is This It, Rated R. I'm here for that.
Nice chart some out of the top 1000 but i knew most of the band so a superb chart for indie rock and some classics. 85 Points
Love all the Aussie stuff
Interesting picks
Sorry boy,
I´m not convinced of that chart.
A lot picks arerare but poor.
Very personal list.
Lot`s of indie rock that I don`t know.
Mew is OK, but for me no more than just OK.
Dude this is great! so many new bands ive never heard of before mixed in with some old classics, i've definitely got to get onto Mew now! kudos
Beatles, Beach Boys & Bowie would probably account for maybe 10 spots (I'm not totally sure). I've been spending a lot of time since I joined chasing up some older albums (pre-1996ish). I went to high school in the late nineties and the music of that time tends to influence most of my tastes (for good or ill), so I have a lot of music to expose myself to. I consider a lot of the pop/rock music of the 50s & 60s as "classic", so artists like Elvis Presley, Little Richard, The Kinks, The Easybeats and the like have probably been unfairly overlooked, but as they weren't really part of my "musical awakening" I've left them out. I'm seriously considering completely re-evaluating my main chart to include more of the "classics", in light of the phenomenal albums I've been listening to lately, and shifting my "musical awakening" albums to a custom chart. I just didn't want to change anything too soon because my wish list has grown exponentially, and I don't want to miss anything.
Cool chart... I'm curious - how much Beatles, Beach Boys and Bowie would be hear otherwise? Any other exclusions due to their 'classic' status?
