Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.0/100, a mean average of 71.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.7.

Okkervil River hasn't been the most prolific band of the 2010's, but they might be the most consistent. Everything they've recorded in this decade has been somewhere in the zone between indie rock and indie folk, often inflected by the New England landscapes of frontman Will Sheff's childhood and the alt-country environs of the band's current home of Austin, Texas. It's a formula that has brought the band much critical praise and a loyal, if not massive, following. I Am Very Far is a polished piece of work, and while it lacks the one transcendent track that makes some of their other albums so memorable, it does include the painful and evocative lyrics of "Your Past Life as a Blast": "I'll tell you what I didn't say / I'll tell you about the way I really miss him / You tell them what you want to tell them / Tell them 'bout the way you really loved her." Sung like a man who knows heartache about as well as any songwriter alive.
Okkervil River goes for carefully orchestrated arrangements and well-crafted lyrics. And they do it well, this is definitely an album worth checking out.
Not as complicated as their last pseudo-concept album, this one drops the pretense and simply rocks out as okkervil river can. It sounds a little more delicate and grand than past (dark) albums (like "black sheep boy"), but it's a welcome change.
