Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.4/100, a mean average of 73.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.0.

Never boring but never amazing either. A few high points but it's mostly fails to be more than interesting.

I love Caribou, and I appreciate a lot of the experimentation and weirdness on this record, but it often feels so distant and eccentric without a lot of purpose.

Pretty solid release, coming from someone who doesn't appreciate Caribou's music entirely. Some frustrating lows in the mix though.

Favorite tracks: New Jade, You and I, Never Come Back

Many people consider Our Love to be the downfall of Caribou because of its lack of innovative sounds and pop-oriented songwriting. I'm not one of them, loved that record, but I do get where those criticism is coming from. However with this new record, I find myself in the opposite camp: this is a good album, but clearly Dan's worst as Caribou. Pop elements are more apparent than ever, and they work sometimes (New Jade and Home are excellent), but more often than not they cause Dan's music to sound mediocre and derivative. That has never happened on any Dan Snaith project that I've heard. Again, it's still a decent-to-good album, but not the one I'll be coming back to often.

Nothing too innovative. Spare bedroom electronica

I agree with corenfro, Caribou is great. Swim especially but also Our Love and Andorra. Milk of Human Kindness is pretty cool too but it had to grow on me. His other project Manitoba is supposed to be good too, I have one of those being shipped to me. With that being said this album, Suddenly, is like a perfect blend of everything he's done so far.

Guys if you like this be sure to check out his other albums this guy is super good and super underrated. If you buy what he's selling then I can promise you his old stuff is worth exploring if you want to go on an exploration through sonic landscapes and like his beautifully catchy melodies and arrangements. Andorra, Swim, Our Love, they're all just so good.

Just beautiful. Simple and complex simultaneously. The sounds are very diverse and I like every single song. Great album, I have not expected something so good and it's mixed and mastered perfectly.

Caribou has always been a slow burner for me. 'Our Love' took me a year or two to fully appreciate (and now is on my short list for best albums of the decade). I've gone through 'Suddenly' at least 3 times now, and have yet to notice a track I don't like. Bottom line, Caribou is keeping up with their consistency on this one. Favorite of the year, so far.

He's combining his love for EDM along w/ soul and psych rock. I *love* that he's singing as much as on Andorra again and incorporating the best elements from all his previous work. Some of his best production work and vocal melodies are on this album, especially the first half.
