Dec 20. First Listen. Recommended to me by a punter on 7Rock. Interesting start. The very first song has a variety of styles and reminded me of newer bands like Turnstile, with some hardcore sounds and yet has spacey moments sounding like Jane's Addiction.
Okay, so there seems to be a lot more alt-rock in the mix on the album than I expected for a band I thought would be hardcore. I love my punk, but not so much the macho, sweaty, chanting stuff. This album avoids that whilst still having some sounds the 80s punks might have loved. Parts even remind me of the flash-in-the-pan Mutha's Day Out from the 90s.
'Low Season', whilst not reaching great heights, has a good mid-paced vibe going on and went straight into my Checking Out list. Such a variety of sounds makes this a lot of fun. Songs like 'Passenger' embody the embracement of varying styles. For such a mixture of sounds, I thought more songs might have stood out on a first play, but they didn't. This might be a good thing as I need more time to discover the gems here or the album might just be consistently very good. 3.5/5
