Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 82.7/100, a mean average of 82.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.5.

This album grew on me a lot, it's extremely british, but I love it about it. My favorite tracks are Victoria, Mr. Churchill Says, Shangri-La, Young And Innocent Days and the most heartbreaking Some Mother's Son.
Altough I think that Yes Sir, No Sir and Nothing To Say are skips, album still stands strong.
I regard "Shangri-La" as one of the greatest songs of 1969.
It's up there alongside Space Oddity, Gimme Shelter, Something, Whole Lotta Love, The Court of the Crimson King.
Not better than Village Green, Arthur is still an amazing album. The only aspect I don't like about it is the tendency of some songs to interrupt halfway through just to turn into something melodically and rhythmically different (Yes Sir No Sir, Australia, Mr Churchill Says, Princess Marina...). Feels a bit too inconsistent as a whole because of this but there are a lot of brilliant ideas that deserve recognition.
If this site has taught me anything, it's that I need to spend more time with the Kinks.
i think this is my favourite kinks album , excellent songs
To fix what Vsaville said:
Victoria and other all-time classics like Shangri-La, Brainwashed, Australia, Yes Sir No Sir, Young and Innocent Days, and more. One of the Kinks' best.
victoria and nothing
Ray Davies's songwriting rivals that of the Beatles. Especially on cuts like Shangri-La, Victoria, Australia, and Mr. Churchill Says.
My favourite Kinks album. Shangri-la, Yes Sir No Sir, Austrialia all great songs. Love the fact Shangri-la was banned for being condescending!
Best tracks: Victoria, Australia
Worst tracks: Yes Sir No Sir, Mr Churchill Says, She Bought a Hat Like Princess Marina
