Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. Fantastic instruments are hindered by sub-par lyrics and a mixed bag of lyrics.

Listening to Confetti reminded me of the first time I heard of Passion Pit's Sleepyhead, a light and fluffy tune I really didn't have to invest a lot of time into to enjoy. The difference between Passion Pit and Cold Cove is that there is a good amount of diversity among the songs on Cherish the Light Years. While the overall sound remains this throwback to bands like Depeche Mode and The Cure, there is a clear cut difference between poppy songs like Catacombs and Confetti and deeper, darker songs like Burning Sage. This makes the album very enjoyable and keeps your attention throughout.
