These guys describe themselves as "psychedelic grunge pop," which is to say there's a significant 60s influence from bands like The Move, early Pink Floyd, Donovan, and the Velvet Underground, plus occasional bits of hippie-folk, bubblegum, and buzzy Moog synthesizer strewn about here and there. Not so much grunge, though. It's actually an interesting sort of approach, as you'll be listening to a nice, catchy pop song and gradually it fills up with almost random weirdness over the course of 3 to 4 minutes, and then it stops and they do it all again. I like it, but perhaps the most notable thing about Moon Attendant is their drummer, Slowdive's Ian McCutcheon, though the band sounds nothing like Slowdive. The main singer-guitarist in Moon Attendant, Paul Blewett, was in an earlier band with McCutcheon called President Sweetheart, and he was also in Black Hearted Brother with Slowdive's Neil Halstead, who plays guitar on track 9 of this album, but that's still not enough to get them into "Sounds like Slowdive" territory. I guess we'll just have to wait for the next album, though something tells me we might be in for a long wait. (Edited)
