Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.6/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.3.

nice dream pop as background music
I found this really dull. It seemed like the same song over and over.

70 to 75/100 (Earthy and dreamy indie pop that, for me, evokes Mazzy Star while putting their own spin on it - and not achieving the same heights either. Will be returning at some point and I think this may be a grower.)
This is a nice dreamy indie pop album. There is a space to the sounds, like the duo is trying to conjure up in your mind a lot of open road and wide open spaces. They do this with lots of dreamy reverb and so forth and with lots and lots of sort of far off, floating keyboard notes and guitars (a good amount of pedal steel and slide) that sort of swoop down and then in and then out and up in the mix. Its quite nice really. It gives the songs a grounded, somewhat folky vibe which mixes nicely with the dream pop.
The vocals and the lyrics are solid. Not breathtaking or incredible to my ears, but very keen and emotional and I likes em. They don't seperate this album from other earthy dream pop sounding groups (not that I've heard a whole hell of a lot, but there are obvious 90s acts that come to mind and then stay there while listening to the vocals and production of this album.)
For sure, this sounded like a somewhat updated, but mostly the same formula, Mazzy Star. If you like Mazzy Star's brilliant blend of dream pop and folky Americana, then you'll probably at the very least enjoy this. While, no, there is no Hope Sandoval here to push these songs to another level of shimmering gorgeous breath-taking excellence, Tessa Murray holds her own and makes these songs shine nicely.

Love this band and that "dream pop" genre. Got into them back in 2018 with their last album. This is the first album of 2021 I've been looking forward to. It's delightfully dark, atmospheric and chill AF.
