Steve Vai is a talented guitarist, but his style doesn't fit in with the rest of the band. He is busy percolating and hopping from idea to idea mid-song, while the other guys in the band just seem capable of reliably plugging along. Vai doesn't show the nuance of Vandenberg who had become injured during the time between the previous tour and this recording, so Vai was a hurried replacement.

With this album, Whitesnake completed their descent into hair metal and power ballad hell. Remnants of the once great band are very hard to find here.
