(Simply 28 minutes of delicate and warm and mildly uplifting indie pop from singer songwriter Katy Kirby. Excellent debut and hopefully the first of many beautiful albums to come.)
Strangely after half a dozen listens to this short album I still don't have much of any consequence to say about it outside of man I really like this album. There are some Indie Pop and folkie songs here that are just pristine and brilliant in their affecting simplicity such as "Cool Dry Place". There are also some cool almost hyperactively changing yet fun and joyous pop songs like "Traffic!" that I love just as much.
Katy's voice is warm and beautiful and she knows how to write a rock solid pop melody. This album is full of many tender and beautiful moments.
The songwriting and lyricism is on point, and the album switches up the mood and tempo enough to keep you engaged yet not so much that it becomes a bit disjointed. And at 28 minutes the warmth and pure plain prettiness and poppiness of the album nevcer overstays its welcome and indeed tends to make me want to push play again as I have discovered that last couple days.
Like I said, not much detail am I gonna give on what exactly is happening with this album. Its an indie pop singer/songwriter album with some folk elements and lots of sweet and catchy melodies and a nice variety of sounds and it just feels like a good thing all the way through and I really like it and ... nope, nothing else. that is it.
