(Somewhat serviceable rock album with absolutely no memorable moments or facets.)
This Dale Crover guy was the long time drummer of the Melvins. This fact kinda caught my attention. I decided to give it a listen hoping maybe to hear some heavy shiz. However, I mostly ended up hearing some hard rock songs. Maybe 1/3 the album is noisy and somewhat strange experimentation which I really thought was cool most of the time. The other 2/3 were hard rock/rock songs with solid hooks and some solid guitar and drum work. These songs weren't bad by any means, but I feel they are generally forgettable and not the best the genre has to offer.
Also the 2 types of track here are both fine in their own rights. But I feel there is a bit of an identity crisis here where Dale Crover never decides upon which aspect to focus on or perfect and as a result there doesn't seem to be a clear consistent vibe or message or style. I suppose that is just what this guy was going for, maybe he just wanted to get in the studio and crank out some good hard rocking tracks and also maybe try some stuff he's wanted to try for awhile.
The album is fine. I won't be thinking much about it for awhile or maybe ever.
