Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.3/100, a mean average of 71.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

Lovely record. One of the great vocalists currently working. Gorgeous guitars and it just takes you away to a swing chair on a sunny verandah in a wooded glade.
(Tender, isolated and backward-looking singer/songwriter album from Hayley. Album is pretty standard folk confessional singer/songwriter fare, with her heart-on-her-sleeve lyrics and lots of acoustic guitars and pianos. But it happens to be a very well-realized version of that style, so kudos.)
This is good stuff. Acoustic, heartbroken, introspective, beautiful. At times there are some ambient tones thrown in to spice it up and give the songs a bit more sad sack oomph. And while I don't feel this is a masterpiece or a true standout confessional singer/songwriter album, I quite enjoyed it all the way through and it scratches that moody itch.
There is a trend in pop music to make albums that feel like isolated, ruminative, assessments. This is due to, I would think, the 2020 quarantine and lockdowns that almost all of us took part in. This album is as good an example of this as any. The songs are somewhat mournful and unadorned and direct in their themes of lost love and lethargic attempts to move on emotionally from (in Hayley's case) a divorce and a false-start on her solo career. The cumulative effect of these 14 quite pretty and traditional solo folk and folk rock recordings is excellent. I feel like I am vibing with and feeling for the artist fully by the end.
Production is good considering she recorded most of this (or all? I think all, but I don't honestly know) from her home. The little, rare adornments like the weird effect on the vocals at the end of "No Use I Just Do", or the short instrumental "Descansos" with its horn sound, or the explosive end to the closing track "Just a Lover", or the dreamy crescendo of "HYD", etc, all contribute to a pretty well-rounded and engaging album despite how easy it is for this type of album to become a drag.
Anyway, I have always looked at Hayley as my slightly older, much cooler, peer. One who I never really liked the music of but respected from afar. I like this style of music much more than her kinda punky Paramore stuff and it was nice to sorta catch up with her in these strange and troubled times. Overall this is a solid album. Not much else to say on it.
