Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.6/100, a mean average of 76.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.7.

Now we know what the senator wants.
I really like the risks they took on this record, and ensures that Stephen Malkmus is still relevant in the indie rock landscape
Stephen Malkmus is amazing, he really is. I’ve always been a huge fan of Pavement because their music is so creative and well done. I would say this album is equally as good as any Pavement album (outside of maybe “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain"). They lyrics are cleverly written, the music is great and the instrumentation is cool. I would say that The Jicks are perhaps a bit more, shall we say, mainstream than Pavement was. Pavement had their moments of oddness. The Jicks just stick with a style and roll with it. Overall it’s a great album.
He just seems to keep producing great albums. This is really good, but I was nearly put off by the cover.
Stephen's refocused lyrically and offers more "hooks" this time around (check out "senator"!), but there isn't too much of a change. If you've liked his past post-pavement works, you'll like this one. This is indie rock.
