(This is just a sweet collection of country songs in the vein of old country legends, spiced up with some elements of more modern Americana sounds and genres like alt-country. The songs themselves are consistently well written, Esther has a sweet, melodic and endearing voice/personality, and the musicianship is stripped down and simple and effective throughout. Just a really fun and sunny country album.)
This is a beautifully direct little album. I personally didn't hear any lyrics or musical moments that transcended or tried to. Instead each song is simply a well written, sweet americana track, full of bright melodies and vocals and choruses, sweet guitar and peddle steel, some consistently stripped down to bare basics country tracks, and a consistently lovely album.
The only downside or critique of note from me is that the songs sometimes felt not fully fleshed out. The songs at times felt like the skeleton of a great country pop song, but something was missing. That may have been what the musicians were going for, what with the general soundscape being purposefully austere in many places. But alas a few and just a few songs suffered from something missing.
By and large the songs are sweet, the sound is beautiful and warm and its just a really solid country album.
