Coxsone's production, Leroy Sibbles' voice, the harmonies - the best album to come out of Jamaica in the 1960s by some distance. (Edited)
The Heptones was een van de topgroepen op het Jamaicaanse Studio One-label. De rocksteady van The Heptones, gecombineerd met hun fantistische harmoniezang is jaren na datum nog steeds even sprankelend als toen. Dit is hun tweede album en daarop gaat het vooral alweer over de liefde en de realiteit van het dagelijks leven. De meeste ritmes op dit album worden tegenwoordig nog steeds gebruikt wat van On Top een heel herkenbare reggaeplaat maakt. En als die ritmes uit de muzikanten van Studio One komen, dan weet je meteen ook dat het hier over onverslijtbare ritmes gaat. Voeg daar dan nog de zwoele zang bij en je krijgt een klassieker in de rocksteady.
