Had to bump it up to a 7 after a few listens. "voices of old people" and "old friends" made me feel 30 years older despite the awesome string section at the end.

The uninspiring middle third of this album makes me feel so un-hip for listening and enjoying the rest of this album w/ some great tunes, but I see how it fits into the "bookends" theme of the album and so I appreciate the concept even if I didn't really care for the middle third of the album.

My third favorite S&G album is still a triumph. Their harmonies and experimenting is really unparalleled. Voices of Old People is for sure the weakest track but it's just like any other interlude on another album, i.e. it's not a song. It's crazy that all of the most prolific artists from this time period were in their 20s. Today we'd never let 25 year olds run rampant with this sort of artistic freedom. Times have changed but this album remains relevant and close.

A superb Simon and Garfunkel album. As always with S&G records it contains some excellent tracks. Mrs. Robinson, hazy shade of winter, and the absolutely stunning, America, are the pick of the bunch, with the title track also particularly nice. Garfunkel's, voices of old people, is a bit pointless, but the album is in a sense a concept album of aging and friendship. Paul Simon is one of the greatest songwriters in the history of popular music and this is another one of his special recordings. Excellent.

A beautiful observation of the depths of humanity: life and death, society, politics, love, time. Save the Life of My Child brings forth concerns for the youth, while America delves into the frighteningly overbearing weight of a newly gained adulthood. Overs further extenuates this nervousness in commitment, fear in the loss or gain of love. Voices of Old People is the testament by which past generations convey advice to the young, and Old Friends serves as the moment two elders come to terms with the choices made throughout their life, reminiscing on good and bad. The Bookends Theme, both at the start and center of the album, represent the circular nature of life, beginning and ending in much the same way, with the soothing vocals of Simon & Garfunkel reminding their listeners to enjoy life.

Why do they put Voices of old people on this? It brings down the album.

A high quality work. A Hazy Shade Of Winter is great. No more to say about Mrs Robinson

To me this is a sort of concept album dealing with a midlife crisis and reconciling lost youth. Though I may have overthought it (I've listened to this about a hundred times by now) it does make the album a lot more meaningful.
