A comprehensive retrospective of the recorded output of Etta James while she was affiliated with Chess Records. Released in 1993 on Chess/MCA Records (Cat#: Chess – CHD2-9341, MCA Records – CHD2-9341) this 44 track compilation follows James' ascension to the top of the female soul singing pantheon, and slow descent from that pinnacle. The liner notes are extremely informative and shy away from the usual gloss that accompanies these packages. This two album set is a must have in any serious collector's library.
