Britpop's hidden gem. Darker, deeper and a lot more tasteful than many of its contemporaries, Suede's self titled debut plays far better than anyone could expect a first album to go.

Of more significant note, however, is that it goes to places its contemporaries could only dream of. The confidence with which Anderson's lyrics tittle along the line of sexual explicitness is fantastic, and it's refreshing to hear such confidence in the subject matters he delves into.

Its a record for the slightly downtrodden and dirty-minded who want an escape into a world with people like themselves. One for those after that echoy, metallic early 90s sound with enough confidence to tackle more carnal matters too.

Britpop is not my favorite, but this is plenty competent.

I love this album! . Sex drugs and swagger all in equal measure. There's 9 cracking songs here with Pantomime Horse and Animal Lover being let downs. Easily top 20 all time , an absolute classic

Postcard album from britpop era. Remember well Animal Nitrate, the Drowners and Metal Mickey pumping from the loudspeakers from now long extinct indi/alternative clubs down here in Melb. City of 4 million virtually bereft of anything but top 40 and rnb thesedays.

Arguably the album that kicked off the brit pop era. Suede, is a great brooding rock'n'roll album heavily influenced by Bowie, The Smiths, and T.Rex. Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler are an excellent pairing and they create some great music here. So young, sleeping pills, and, animal lover, are all excellent, but the best of the bunch is without doubt, animal nitrate, one of the great singles of the nineties. A great debut.
