Totally fun and exciting! So glad I randomly listened to this or maybe it was because of Fantano lol. Either way it's fantastic.
A lot of heart and humor combined with a nice tight production. At first glance it may seem as a purely political project, but there is a lot more nuance when you dig into it.
“Topical Dancer” turns a little into much more. The minimal synths are weaved together into catchy focusing beats. “It hit me” transforms from a simple drum pattern into an almost industrial banger. Adigéry injects a wry wit through the album. Tongue in cheek barbs are thrown at passive aggression and racism very effectively. “Thank you” is a hysterical poke at the process of music criticism and the “Benefits” it has given her career. Even with the effective use of the album's material, its limitations do show. When the beats don’t come together, it feels flat and undercooked. Adigéry’s jokes don’t cover up songs that are not completely fleshed out. “Topical Dancer” is clever but with room to grow.
