Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.2/100, a mean average of 72.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

Loving Wet Leg, a breath of fresh air, certainly in my top ten albums of 22
“Wetleg” tries a bit too hard to be clever. Songs attempt to have this wry sense of humor about them, but it rarely hits the mark. This produces groaner lyrics such as “To tell me if I'm thin or fat, to tell me should I shave my rat”. The focus on wordplay also comes at the cost of thematic meaning. They will jump from innuendo to innuendo without building a foundation of feeling. This is most apparent on the break-up tracks, which all together only amount to only “Piss off, loser”. Instrumentally, there is competent jangle pop, but with the exception of “Wet Dream” no stand-out guitar lines. If you put your tongue too far into your cheek, no one will know what you are saying.
Wet Leg are Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers who smashed into our consciousness fully formed out the egg from The Isle of Wight of all places. With their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks they deliver a fun and surprisingly assured debut that yes does actually deliver on the hype
Whilst 2021’s viral hit “Chaise Lounge” will get most of the attention here, the real hero’s are the wonderful dripping with sarcasm “Wet Dream” along with its song mate “Supermarket”. Unfortunately, a couple of filler tracks [“Ur Mum” / “Convincing”] stop this album from being some thing really special - regardless the many highs paper over any cracks for ultimately one of 2022’s most compelling listens
First Aid Kit (new album coming soon in 2022) ain’t got nothing on these gals
Probably the most hyped debut album this year and I feel it (mostly) lives up to expectations.
Folks who like the sly and wry female-vocal rock will enjoy this immesurably. I however did not.
Condensed to a 7" Single:
A-Side: Wet Dream
B-Side: Too Late Now
For some reason I thought they were Scandanavian
Yeah this is plenty all-right, a lot of aughties-era deja vu, but certainly peppy and well-produced even if this feels far too overhyped at the current moment. At least there are enough engaging tunes (though some wide misses as well) to make me forgive the "ur so woke/diet coke" line.
