Recorded over two sessions spanning 3 and a half years, this album was initially released in 1974 on Fantasy Records (Cat#: F-9462). For tracks 1-7 Duke is accompanied by John Lamb on bass and Sam Woodyard on drums, and those tracks were recorded in New York City on July 18, 1966. For tracks 8-10 Duke is accompanied by Victor Gaskin on bass, Paul Kondziela on bass, and Rufus Jones on drums, and those tracks were recorded in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 7, 1970. The music is lively throughout, with Ellington demonstrating a delicate touch and mastery. The version I have on hand is the 1992 digital remastering, released by Original Jazz Classics/Fantasy Label (Cat#: OJCCD-717-2[F-9462]). Authenticated on discogs.com
