Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

Sounds a lot like early Stones.. nice
Everything is decent. It's a very unpolished album. The highlights all come from Morrison's vocals. He shows off some of his talent throughout but I think the best moments come in the first two songs.
This is an interesting observation: What is really interesting here is to discover Morrison's early style, which has nothing to do with his much more soulful solo career. His voice is closer to Jagger's than the one he adopts in Astral Weeks for example.
Also agree it sounds a bit like the Animals, especially I'm Gonna Dress in Black with the organ.
This is just as good as an Early Rolling Stones album. Average early 60s rock n' roll. Gloria obviously is the famous track. I do like the tone of the bass and guitar on I Like It Like That.
G-L-O-R-I-A Gloria! (and a bunch of other okay tracks)
Mmmh. It's a pretty good album, I don't deny it. It's nothing to be really excited about, though. Just nice rock 'n' roll in The Animals' style.

Yeah, and Gloria, too. Without Them (lol), Patti Smith could never have covered it to make it ten thousand times better, so I guess I should be glad this album existed anyway.
Somehow we've forgotten about Them, while Van Morrison has been remembered. I suppose the place to go is after a compilation, but if you're going to look for an individual album, this is it. Gloria is packed full of energy...
