“Crooked tree” is a quant bluegrass listen. The fiddle, banjo, and guitar are well performed. The standout track is the murder ballad “The River knows”. During the chorus, the vocals pull into a beautiful cry that adds a lot of emotion. Unfortunately, the latter half just becomes flat. The last three tracks lack a strong idea musically or lyrically to add interest. This is particularly noticeable as bluegrass is a genre defined by its energy. A cute experience that stops just short of the finish line.
