Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 72.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.2.

Thoroughly enjoyed, and was rather surprised at how much I dug this album; not that I’d written Porridge Radio off - far from it - but this latest offering contained a kind of quality and depth to it that I hadn’t fully expected.
Porridge Radio AKA Dana Margolin breakthrough with a tense album full of urgency and purpose that fans of Sloth Rust or Goat Girl will really enjoy. For mine the two album stands outs were in fact the ballads in the piano backed “Flowers” and acoustic guitar backed closer title track
There isn't a bad song on here, in fact there's real gems in here like single Back to the Radio, Birthday Party and U Can Be Happy If U Want To. My feelings about Porridge Radio, and maybe they haven't completely changed because of this release but have been challenged, is that they're a band from a cool place that have good taste in (and know how to make) music. The urgency to make art, however, has never really shined through. Some of the repeated lines in refrains like "I Don't Wanna Go Back" in "End of Last Year, or Dana's vocal urgency in the climax of songs like The Rip, kinda suggests maybe they do need to do this actually.
