I'm not so surprised that nobody has chosen this one before! I think you have to come from the North of England to really appreciate them. Emerging from the post-industrial landscape of Manchester in the early 70s, their debut album consists of one side of beautifully written and performed, slightly quirky, but, nevertheless, serious songs, while the other side showcases their 'eee by gum' comic side. You could create a 'serious' album from the 'proper' songs on their first two albums or a 'comic' album in a similar way, but I like the combination. Later on, they were forced into becoming a humorous act by 'public demand' and the more serious side was lost, which was a pity.
