Last year Australia gave the world of straight up punk Amyl and The Sniffers and in 22 we give it The Chats. These lads originate from The Sunshine Coast in Queensland which is literally just down the highway from where I write this so I’m well positioned to translate some the uniquely Queensland lyrical content
“6L GTR” - refers to a car favoured by “hoons” AKA petrol heads
“Boggo Breakout” - refers to a famous jail break from Brisbanes notoriously bad prison Boggo Road
“Southport Superman” - Southport a famous beach south of Brisbane
“The Price Of Smokes” - due to government tariffs a pack of 30 cigarettes currently costs close to $50 Australian dollars
“Ive Been Drunk In Every Pub In Brisbane” - references legendary drinking venues in Brisbane
“Emperor Of The Beach” - locals are famously protective of their local surfing spot and have a violent dislike for non-locals
“Out On The Street” - the rental market in QLD is diabolical with vacancy rate around 1% resulting in a sharp increase in homelessness particularly for residents who have never been homeless before
