this predates Britpop, better not to lump it in with that movement (Edited)
Shortlisted for album of the year at the 1994 Mercury prize. The winner was Elegant Slumming by M People (Edited)
Nothing mind-blowing, but there are some interesting tracks. Sounds a bit like mix of David Bowie, The Cure and synthpop/power pop.
It has aged better than most britpop.
The first big record (album) from Pulp. Songs like "Acrylic Afternoons", "Happy Endings", and of course "Do You Remember The First Time" are such classy tunes. Sounds fresh and great even now, 25 years later.
