Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.6/100, a mean average of 80.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

An excellent album that captured the Brit-Pop movement perhaps better than any other album. "Common People" and "Mis-Shapes" are standouts (the latter rivaling "Parklife" as the song the epitomized the youth at the time). Worth multiple listens. 9.5/10!

I really enjoy the sound of this album, production is great, melodies are catchy, but I don't really like the lyricism all that much here.

This is an intelligent but fun release from Pulp that is full of depth and character and is far more complex than the majority of their Britpop rivals discographies. This is primarily due to the diverse instrumentation they utilise on here which are all performed to a very high degree. They all work together beautifully as well to create a cohesive sound that is unique to them. The style they achieve on here is the classic Pulp sound as everything just seems to click into place on this release to create their most consistent work to date. The standout songs on here have to be the two brilliant tracks Common People and Disco 2000 which have become classics of the genre. Overall, this is an elite level album that is one of the greatest to come out of the Britpop genre and deserves the high claim that it receives.

It's weird for this to be put in the same style as Oasis based on how different they are, Oasis is a straight-forward rock band with a classic pop sense of melody, this is pure pop with a more sophisticated sound. Anyway, this is one of the most consistently great pop record there are, though I find it hard where to put in my best albums list because it does not really fit with any othe other records I like.

Elements of what would later come with Arctic Monkeys and Spoon are present here. There are moments when the band drives ahead with breathless urgency and others where they lay back for Cocker’s latest creepy, sub-baritone musings. And then they switch back and forth with ease and precision. Great record.
