Michelles mostly consists of Chicago's Michael Daly, whose voice is rather nasal and, frankly, an acquired taste, though it reminds me of Luke Haines (from the Auteurs), who I'm a fan of. The music on this album is your basic neo-psychedelic chamber-pop, quite nice, not retro at all, and occasionally brilliant, but I should also note that the album is guilty of a bit of false advertising because it doesn't actually list or even describe rock and roll's empty promises. This is probably good though, because otherwise it would have to be a 72-disc box set.
