Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.7.

Back in the latter year of Secondary School, a mate lent this to me for a few days. It sounded excellent on the fairly budget music centre, yes I am going to say it again 'music centre' which I was proud to own at the time. It had a tape deck, a radio and a record player! Not sure how it happened but after returning the vinyl to my mate I could still continue to listen to the album...
All in all a truly excellent album. A brilliant cover too, the list of instruments Mark Stanway played, as listed on the rear of the sleeve, was enough to get me drooling! Great production where everything sits well in the mix. Personal favourites are 'Soldier of the Line' and 'We all Play the Game', the latter for the Mini Moog opening and chorus interludes.
A great album, a very well mixed recording with great material and sound.
Easily Magnum's best album, but at a price. Produced by Jeff Glixman, he held onto the recordings for 2 years. Despite it success, they refused to ever use his services again. Shame as they perfected their sound on this album - 4 classic tracks: Soldier Of The Line, The Spirit, Sacred Hour and The Lights Burned Out and 4 solid other tunes. 1 song too short!
