It took me a bit to get into this sound, but this really grew on me. Even though I didn't love it at first, this is undoubtedly one of the prettiest collection of songs I've ever heard.
I find this album to be a little bit bare at times and I always struggled to connect with some of the slower songs. With that being said when this record is good it is amazing. The highlights for me are More Than This and the title track both of which are very rich and enjoyable. There are a few other cuts after that which are good but then the rest for me feels like filler. I found myself being quite uninterested and very easily distracted when revisiting this album. It is quite repetitive and is lacking that edge to really get me behind the sound. Overall, this might be one of those records I am very wrong about but I just can't get into the music. (Edited)
I was 13 years old, when I listened Avalon for the first time . It gave me a completely new listening experience. This was something I have never previously heard. The elegant and lush sound impressed me very much. Up to now, this album has been one of my favorites.

a little disappointed with this one since its listed as the number one roxy music album on the site...and especially since im such a fan of "for you pleasure". not a bad album, just nothing special about it. it veers too much into an adult contemporary sound for my taste. on top of that, brian ferrys vocals have gotten less dramatic which is really one of the most endearing things about early roxy music albums.
The Roxy Music album that's guaranteed to please the ladiessss. Track after track of slick, sultry sophistication. Ol' Byron Ferrari was a suave devil, and when you put this record on you too will feel like him. An after-disco/wine bar essential. Every dream home should have one!
