Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.0/100, a mean average of 74.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

Good album, but I don't understand the ratings.
Currently 8th in 1982, but the rating is only 76/100

A lot of great atmosphere on a lot of the songs on here. I do think there are a couple duds, namely Hold Back the Rain and Last Chance on the Stairway, but the rest are pretty good.

New Religion is the best example of both musical rambling and the infectious pop perfection.
I feel like they needed better verses too.

This album could be a piece of platinum if they didn't feel the need to unnecessarily pad-out songs with dull instrumental bits. It doesn't work with pop as infectious as this.

Ultimate early 80s New Romantic synth pop. The fellows in Duran Duran knew how to write big hooks and exploit the emergence of MTV. The music holds up.

Game changing eighties synth pop/rock album, possibly underrated by non musicians, particularly in relation to what Nick Rodes accomplished with the keyboard aspects. Four absolutely cracking eighties tracks in 'Rio', 'Hungry Like the Wolf', 'Save a Prayer' and 'New Religion'.
