Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.8/100, a mean average of 74.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.6.

I love 80s synth-pop production here, there are some highlights - hit songs, the lyrics are often cringy, but overall very enjoyable listen. Hungry Like A Wolf is a timeless party banger.
Classic entry to the early 80s romantic and New Age flavored pop. Still sounds very fresh and stays listenable forever.
very strong everything. sexy. stylized. pop new wave.
A decent pop album, not every song works but there are one or two 80's classics on here. A great live band.
Good album, but I don't understand the ratings.
Currently 8th in 1982, but the rating is only 76/100
A lot of great atmosphere on a lot of the songs on here. I do think there are a couple duds, namely Hold Back the Rain and Last Chance on the Stairway, but the rest are pretty good.
New Religion is the best example of both musical rambling and the infectious pop perfection.
I feel like they needed better verses too.
This album could be a piece of platinum if they didn't feel the need to unnecessarily pad-out songs with dull instrumental bits. It doesn't work with pop as infectious as this.
Ultimate early 80s New Romantic synth pop. The fellows in Duran Duran knew how to write big hooks and exploit the emergence of MTV. The music holds up.
