Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 5% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.2/100, a mean average of 74.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.4.

Some very high moment like space dye vest, lie and lifting shadow of a dream but overall felt a litte bit too lenghty compared to my favourite DT albums

Lifting Shadows off a Dream. Space-Dye Vest. Two best tracks. Prefer the progressive elements to the metal moments.

Great album. Agree with the previous comments, bit lengthy and some songs could of been shortened but overall it's gotten more enjoyable each listen. Best tracks for me are: 'The Mirror' & 'Lie'.

An album released by a still young band and full of fresh ideas in 1994. But this was the first DT album with a full CD length (almost 80min). The next of their carrer will show that long albums filled by ten-minutes progressive songs can be really enjoyable. But a 75 min album with an average of 6 minutes a song can be disturbing.
Nevertheless, Awake is a solid album, although it is not as relevant as Images and Words.

This is where the first signs of "Quantity over Quality" started to appear in Dream Theater's work. Don't get me wrong - they're still one of my favorite bands - but what keeps them from being -my- favorite is that they don't trim the fat. This album, and most of the succeeding ones - clocks in at nearly 80 minutes. That's twice as long as a typical Rush or Queen album! None of the songs are truly bad, but I feel some of the ideas could've been trimmed and/or combined into suites. It just feels like it runs a bit too long.
