Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.8/100, a mean average of 68.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

Many tracks seem to be rehashed takes of obscure Primus/Les Claypool offerings from the past. There's a few moments that make this a worthwhile listen, but not a recommended starting point.

Primus is very good. They are incredibly talented musicians. The drumming, guitar playing and bass playing are all very technical and very good. Some of the songs seem a little strange but I think that’s part of their sound. They’re quirky and I kind of like that. They have kind of a They Might Be Giants quirk to them in that they write very odd songs. They don’t sound like TMBG, but the quirkiness is there. It’s a really cool album, give it a chance.

A few cool songs like Lee Van Cleef and Moron TV, but not one my favorite albums by Primus.
