Yet another Middle Brother member makes a good album. I've heard and liked Deer Tick and Dawes albums before and this one falls a bit in between quality-wise. It has a hick-ish country vibe that's faintly perceptible in Middle Brother, but Diamond Rugs comes out full-force, sometimes brutally honest in a local yocal kinda way, singing the "call girl blues", asking you to "gimme a beer" and goin' all rowdy for the ladies like on next-to-last "hungover and horny". There's a lot of good, simple, light-hearted fun to be had here, especially after a couple brewskies.
