Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 66.3/100, a mean average of 63.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.9.

Even setting Babe aside, this was a significant step down from the likes of The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight.

I enjoyed this album at the time, though didn’t like Babe much. Now I know better.

What's good on this record, "Boat On A River" and "Love In The Midnight" is worthy material...but man this still feels like a weak record. If you love the two big hit crying ballads than this is for you...felt like we lost them here though.

Way, way, way past their prime.

People hate this album for one reason, "Babe". As a whole much better than the reputation the one big power ballad gives it.

Whilst the rock aspect is toned down a bit compared to their predecessor here with Dennis opting for horns and ballads and Tommy opting for the acoustic guitar, the band still manage to deliver a consistently good album. Yes Babe has been played to death on the radio, but so has Stairway To Heaven - and there is a very good reason for that!
