Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 60.5/100, a mean average of 58.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 58.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.4.

This is probably Marilyn's weakest album, very few good songs, most are skips. Best part of Born Villain is the surprisingly faithful Carly Simon classic "You're So Vain" and it didn't even make the vinyl. smh

Best songs: "Hey Cruel World" "The Gardener" "You're So Vain" (CD only)

Remember when Marilyn Manson was so edgy? When every suburban mother was scared to death of the possibility that their children might listen to his music? I remember that too. I remember that and I liked his music then. Now Manson is back with “Born Villain" and it’s half good. The first half of this album is slow and it’s not good. It sounds like David Bowie trying to cover Nine Inch Nails while being strangled. It’s bad. I was not excited about the rest of the album when I was listening to the beginning of it. Then the second half kicked in and that resurrected it a bit. This still isn’t the best Manson can do or has done, but it’s not bad. There are some decent songs here and there (including an odd, somewhat interesting cover of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain") but overall, the album is just alright.

I'm so glad that Manson is still around. To me, he is the last true American rock star. I hope he defies logic and continues to make music as he ages. "Born Villain" has a few new flavor tracks (like "The Gardener" and the title track) that I enjoy. The special edition version of this album has a cover of "You're So Vain" featuring Johnny Depp that's worth checking out as well. If you've ever liked Manson, you should give this a spin.

The last song on "Born Villain" is called "Breaking the Same Old Ground" and it's a good review for this album by Marilyn Manson.

It's WAY better than "Eat Me..." and "High End..."
