Ciò che fa Lanegan in questo disco è un calarsi nelle canzoni altrui con un piglio da ricercatore che niente ha a che fare con il grunge ma che piuttosto ricorda un Ry Cooder meno studioso e ancora più solitario, quasi un Leonard Cohen del West… Atmosfera, suono, voce: funziona tutto benissimo.
