Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 15% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 75.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.9.

Repo's 1991 AOTD: 1 I'm clearly an idiot. I was a HUGE Meat Puppets fan back in the 80s. Under the Sun & II were two of my favorite albums. But I was underwhelmed by Monsters (their '89 release although now I think it's really good if not great) so I never picked up this. Part of it was likely all…

Forbidden Places is Meat Puppets' seventh album and their debut on major label London Records.

Meat Puppets' independent releases suffered from a low production budget so it's interesting to see the group finally sounding better in the studio, though their next album would finally give them the sound they needed to break into the mainstream.

Many songs aren't too memorable but they are arranged in a more pop friendly format, even with a heavy guitar edge (see Another Moon). That's How It Goes is nice, but doesn't work. This Day is the most pop-oriented track but the blistering Sam takes the prize in the end. Forbidden Places is a decent and overlooked Meat Puppets record.

Career Highlight: Sam
Gems: This Day, Another Moon
