Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 63.7/100, a mean average of 55.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 55.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.8.

A puzzling assortment of songs that vacillate between wildly silly and stony seriousness, Undermind is a bloated mess of an album. I wouldn't call it a bad album, just one with a serious identity crisis.

The blue screen of death for a band that desperately needed a full reboot, Undermind simultaneously represents the best and worst of Phish all at once: New mouthfuls of material with incredible jam potential and a not-half-bad studio takes like Scents and Subtle Sounds and A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing, and some decent, new, bouncy, fun songy songs (The Connection, Undermind, Access Me) accompanied by vapid, worthless attempts at "We can write serious music too, guys" like Two Versions of Me (solid), Army of One (dull) and Secret Smile (absolutely APPALLING). The combined elements clash horribly with each other, and the end result is an album that's so at odds with itself, it has no idea what its original purpose was...and neither do I.

I am a fan of there better works but to me this is just awful. made during their second go around when several members in particular Trey Anastasio were suffering from major drug problems and the music was severely impacted in a negative way. This is just terrible music made by a band capable of so much more.
