Mary Chapin-Carpenter's second studio album keeps the strong lyrical earnestness of her debut. The country-folk sound is back, and thankfully it is injected with some classic pop-rock and a little retro country to make it a stronger project. I can see why it was marketed towards the country audience, and unfortunately it has been far too long since eclectic musicians have been able to enter the Nashville airwaves. But the formula here worked in 1989, and Chapin-Carpenter netted four singles landing in the top 20.

Mary C. Carpenter's second album finds her again doing what she does best songs in a country style. She would slowly move away from this genre but never fully leave it behind her. This was my introduction to her and I have nearly everything she has done, this album however has a special place in my heart. This Shirt & Goodbye Again have become two of my favourite songs of all time even if you don't like country listen to this it might surprise you as it did me.
