Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

While smooth and easy to listen to, this album passes by without a true highlight. Vocally, it is okay but nothing special. Can only really point to “Orpheus” as any form of highlight. It somehow manages to make thirty five minutes drag which is quite an achievement. It is smooth music for background listening but nothing more.

There's a whiff of pretention about this. But it stays on just the right side for me and sounds lovely. One I'll be listening to at night when I'm alone in that house looking at the hills through the massive window, in amongst the jazz and folk and the log fire burning. Single malt or wine, I'm easy. And Orpheus is just wonderful. Let the happiness in, ha.

The most consolidated album of David Sylvian's solo career. An unique album in its kind. No two sound like this.

Dreamy, low-fi, downscaled, sensible and beautiful. The opposite of wailing.

Sylvian, surrounded by a wealth of musical talent, makes his most accomplished album. Top quality.
