Remember, these guys are actually XTC under a different name, so it's OK for them to spell everything with a "P" as the first letter. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]

Here's a good example of BestEverAlbums.com falling down on the job, rankings-wise, because this is absolutely The Sound's second-best album (after "From the Lion's Mouth"), hands down, but this site inexplicably has it ranked as their 6th-best album. Sixth! What's going on here? Nobody seems to know, but just remember, I gave you the real-deal info. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]

This is the Mats' "Alex Chilton album," and I'd say it's their second-best behind "Let it Be." (BEA's aggregate ranking put it at #3, but that's not enough for me to get all upset like I did with the album just above this one.) Regardless, you'll probably like this even if you don't care much for Alex Chilton. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]

The problem here is, if you call your album "Mainstream," everybody's just going to assume you want to be considered more "mainstream" now, which is just another way of saying you want to sell more records. So naturally, people see this and think "this album must be terrible," and they don't buy it, even though it's your best album yet. In the end, the music industry flags you as both non-mainstream AND non-alternative, so your band breaks up, which is what happened here. I'm just theorizing, though. I have no idea what actually happened. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]

It's not their best album, but it had the biggest impact when it came out, so in that respect it's a lot like that asteroid that killed all the dinosaurs. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]

I'm not sure why so many people consider this to be the best Dead Can Dance album, so I have to assume it's because this was one of their earlier albums when nobody was all that sure if the band name meant that the dead were able to dance and were in fact doing exactly that, or if it was just another bunch of kids trying to create some sort of new "dance craze" involving a lifeless aluminium can. I always figured that I liked the Smiths as much as the next guy, but then I found out that the next guy didn't really like them that much at all. I guess this is my way of saying that if I were ranking these albums in 1987 instead of several decades later, this would be much closer to the top. In some respects this is also my favorite Smiths album, though they were all fairly consistent quality-wise, so maybe that's not really worth mentioning here. Also, still no word on whether or not they actually made it to Strangeways. I'd assume they got there though, since it's just north of the AO Arena and pretty easy to get to. Of all the albums that came out of the LA-based "Paisley Underground" scene, this is probably my favorite. Or at least it was, before I realized the title didn't actually mean that there was a "nightmare baby" crawling around somewhere and that it was happy. [First added to this chart: 03/25/2025]
