The key thing here is to not go into this thinking you'll hear a post-punk band doing light-jazzy lounge music. It's a band that never was especially post-punkish (despite their name) to begin with, and has now completely abandoned the pretense in favor of just doing straight-up light-jazzy swingin' lounge music. As such, it's not all that bad — the instrumentation is basic and simple, presumably to make it more practical for them to play live with just a 4- or 5-piece band, so in retrospect the lack of horns or strings make the results seem less "cheesy" and dated. Godard was never the finest lounge singer out there though, nor even a particularly good singer in general, but he gives it his best shot. Ultimately, this album does little more than answer a question nobody was really asking, to wit: "Can people from the punk generation do lounge music?" The answer is "yes," but it begs the question of "why" a little too much. (Edited)
