Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 70.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.8.

I will come right out and say right now that this is one of the best metal albums I’ve heard in a long time. If you’ve never heard of Between The Buried And Me, I’d recommend looking them up. Very technical metal, long songs, concept albums, imagine Tool and Dream Theater had a child and that child decided it wanted to be heavier than its parents. That’s Between The Buried And Me. Amazing guitar work, the songs are incredibly interesting to listen to, this is an album that won’t bore you for a second. The guitar work, the drumming, the bass, the singing, the whole band is incredibly well done. Not to mention that this album features just about every instrument you can imagine, from xylophones to tubas to an orchestra. I highly recommend this album to any and all metal fans, you won’t be disappointed.
