Cheetah was an Australian rock group who recorded a good handful of singles and one album during 1977-82. The group released their music on Albert Records and had the genius songwriter couple Vanda and Young to write the bulk of their material and also this renowned duo to produce the music.
In front group had the two sisters Lindsay and Chrissie Hammond, both of whom are endowed with rich rock vocals. The band members were competent musicians, including drummer Ray Arnott, who also played with Flash and the Pan.
It all sounds like something that could not go wrong. However, the band never made a breakthrough outside Australia where they, however, did well on the charts, especially "Spend the Night" achieved success.
The music is solid rock, bit ala Heart or The Runaways, but there is also a lot of Vanda / Young (Easybeats) in the sound - no surprise. Sometimes you almost sense George Young's familiar vocals - I assume that Vanda and Young themselves must have instruments in their hands during the recording of this rather solid album.
Besides "Spend the Night", which sounds like an international smash hit, another highlight is "My Man" which with an AC/DC-like riff and a catchy chorus also sounds like something that could have been a hit. Otherwise, this is generally solid rock craft, and a must have for fans of Vanda and Young.
