Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.0/100, a mean average of 79.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

An absolute gem of an album. Didn’t have as large of a commercial impact, but it deserves all the praise it gets and more.
There are 5 great songs at the start and then the album slowly drifts off all the way to the end. If the consistency of those first tracks could be maintained then this would be a fantastic album but those last 4 songs just lack the intensity and punch of the opening tracks. When the album is good though it is so enjoyable to listen to and it has such a unique atmosphere and vibe to it. That is primarily due to the lead vocal which is so special and different which gives this album an edge that other records lack. The instrumentation is very good as well and it combines to create this tense and suspenseful environment for us to be in which is such a great experience. Overall, this album is a very enjoyable listen but it couldn't stay consistent throughout the whole way through and slow drag that is the conclusion really brings it down for me.
Best vocals in post-punk, like a goth Kate Bush or a female Johny Rotten who could actually sing. I prefer the more punk-like style on Scream but the song-writting here is more nuanced and this helps the singing too.

wonderfully fun and very consistent
One of the finest gothic rock albums I've heard, I really like the wild vocals and dark, jungle-like atmosphere created here. First three tracks are excellent, last track is a little bit too slow for me.
driving forceful emotional lyrical. I'm sold. post-punk rock

I don't think I've listened to the entire album since about 1986, but I just did, and it came flooding back. What an album, still sounds fresh and vital. Every track except the experimental closer is excellent. And the incomparable guitar of John McGeoch RIP is just stunning.
Masterpiece

The first 4 tracks are an excellent way to start an album. The heavy mood begins to wear as you keep going but this is a good album overall.

The only album I'll practice witchcraft to
