There are 5 great songs at the start and then the album slowly drifts off all the way to the end. If the consistency of those first tracks could be maintained then this would be a fantastic album but those last 4 songs just lack the intensity and punch of the opening tracks. When the album is good though it is so enjoyable to listen to and it has such a unique atmosphere and vibe to it. That is primarily due to the lead vocal which is so special and different which gives this album an edge that other records lack. The instrumentation is very good as well and it combines to create this tense and suspenseful environment for us to be in which is such a great experience. Overall, this album is a very enjoyable listen but it couldn't stay consistent throughout the whole way through and slow drag that is the conclusion really brings it down for me. (Edited)

Best vocals in post-punk, like a goth Kate Bush or a female Johny Rotten who could actually sing. I prefer the more punk-like style on Scream but the song-writting here is more nuanced and this helps the singing too.

The singles are great (spellbound and Arabian nights), but what about
Halloween, into the night, monitor, and sin in my heart..... WOW !!
Hey, that's just about the whole album isn't it. Must be a classic , right ?

The darkest of the Banshees's album juju invites into a world of tribal cruelty fueled by soaring vocals and hammering drums.

It changed my life and I didn't realize because it's pop qualities, it's beautiful aggression which wasn't just a pose, it all was so overwhelming that I let the darkness just come in. Well maybe I needn't it was in the air at that time. From alll the bands of the punk period the Banshees had the best songs to offer and maybe the most profound ability to change and re define themselves. Here they defined a lot of what would become Gothic after it's burlesque beginnings.
