Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 59.4/100, a mean average of 49.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 49.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 25.3.

Ever since I first listened to Nick Lowe's masterpiece, "Jesus of Cool," I was enthralled by the idea of listening to a Bay City Rollers record. Surely, if Basher himself would write such an endearing song about a specific, contemporary act, they'd have to be worth their wait in gold, right!? So, I threw "Rollin'" on the immense backlog of music I planned to listen to when I had the time.

Imagine my surprise when I finally listened to this debut record and figured out that Nick was probably just being sarcastic. This first BCR record, likely their best, is a collection of totally passable pop songs and mostly subpar covers of better, older songs. We've now passed the 50 year anniversary of defending this absolutely ordinary pop group, Edinburgh, what gives? (Edited)
