A wonderful, gorgeous album with one my favorite tracks of all time, the mournful ballad The Cost Of Living. But every track is great, including the synths, a couple of which sound to me like they're being played by Metheny with one of those MIDI guitars that he and McLaughlin were so enamored of. Mainstream 80s jazz at its finest.
Michael Brecker's first solo album after almost two decades as a first-call studio musician and co-leader of the Brecker Brothers has an all-star modern jazz lineup: Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette and Wynton Marsalis' first pianist, Kenny Kirkland. An otherwise excellent record, it's only marred by, it being the late eighties, Kirkland playing mostly synthesizer, so it doesn't date as well as it would've otherwise.
